All save games disappeared after game update [XBOX PC Game Pass]

Hi there,

Yesterday my game got a 4+GB update and right after that all my savegames have disappeared. I am using PC Game Pass from XBOX.

- Savegame button was grayed out.
- I have checked the folder and there are were no savegames at all except for 2 udat*.sav files with 1KB created at the time of update.
- There are no savegames in recycle bin.
- I tried to save new game in solo, conquest - only new ones appear, no old savegames.

Please advise on next steps. This is really frustrating.

Hey,

Can you try to start a solo game, save that game, exit the game and then try to load your saves?

Okay, here's an update:

After some restarts and few other saves suddenly savegames appeared however not Conquest game savegames. In other words I can access my older savegames now but not Conquest savegames. I hope it helps?

Oh by the way, there are no longer any savegames in Roaming>Dune folder, in fact there is no Dune folder in Roaming.

I have this same issue, many times I load the game, all Save Games are gone. Today I loaded the game and a whole bunch were back, but not the most recent ones. It looks like all save games are in the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\FuncomOsloAS.DuneSpiceWars_pkaskhy6cdq4g\SystemAppData\xgs\....\save folder but don't show up in the load game menu.

I have the exact same issue, I've saved a Conquest game this afternoon and when I launched the game in the evening the "Load Game" button is greyed out despite the saved games are still in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\FuncomOsloAS.DuneSpiceWars_pkaskhy6cdq4g\SystemAppData\xgs\(some very long id)\save ".
Note that when I launched the game tonight it asked me to select the language and server.

I've tried to remove the saved games, start a new conquest game, save and quit and then only this latest save is appearing. I can load it properly. Then I tried to copy the previous saves and at launch it asked me to select the language and server and the "Load Game" is greyed out.

I have the exact same problem. This is the first time with Game Pass I have seen anything similar.

- Fresh installation (2 days) of updated W11, all drivers updated as well
- This was the first time I ever started Dune: Spice Wars (as v1.0 was just released)
- Nothing special on first gaming session
- Just started launching the game again just to find out that all settings were cleared and all saves were gone
- My user account is an administrator level
- I have no custom access limitations to any folders / files

- I CAN SEE THE SAVE FILES in the: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\FuncomOsloAS.DuneSpiceWars_pkaskhy6cdq4g\SystemAppData\xgs\(some very long id)\save

...however in the game I cannot.

Hey,

We are still investigating this issue that is causing us a lot of trouble, could you report this problem to Microsoft so they can help us fix this problem?

Could you also try to copy paste your saves in the "%APPDATA%/Dune - Spice Wars/save" folder and see if you can then load them.

I linked a picture of where to go to report an issue to Microsoft.

SOLVED! --> At the end of the post you will find out the solution how to recover your saves.

First are the steps I took to solve this:

- So I copied the CONTENTS of the (some very long ID)-folder with saves and options.ini, game.log etc to another location as a backup
- Started the game -> no help

- I started a new game and saved
- I restarted the game and the ABOVE save works (but not the one I'm missing)

- The previous location (xgs-folder) did NOT have any new contents -> it's empty

- Then I was about to copy the previously backupped save files back to the (some very long ID)-folder to see if these would work now... but I noticed that there is a xbl.log -file; I opened it and heureka.

- It refers to a completely new location: [XBL] [LOGFILE] Set to C:\Users\<your WIN user>\AppData\Roaming\Dune - Spice Wars\xbl.log

- In THIS folder, you've another XGS-folder with saves!

= COPY YOUR .SAV FILES TO ABOVE FOLDER!

- I recopied the contents that I had backuped to the folder

To recover save files:

= COPY YOUR .SAV FILES + FOLDER CONTENTS FROM %LocalAppData%\Packages\FuncomOsloAS.DuneSpiceWars_pkaskhy6cdq4g\SystemAppData\xgs\<some very long id-folder>\

TO

C:\Users\<your WIN user>\AppData\Roaming\Dune - Spice Wars\

- Be sure to enable HIDDEN files -visibility to access the see the AppData-folder with your File Explorer

NOOOOOOO!

The saves can be SEEN by the game, but they cannot be LOADED!

I'm just stuck in a LOAD LOOP, the loading goes from 0% to 100% and then back to 0% and this keeps repeating.

After reinstalling the game, the "corrupted" saves are now coming from the cloud as well. Now the saves are going to the game location on every launch; %LocalAppData% with the (some very long ID)-folder automatically.

These are the same files I had backupped manually and were able to "see" in the load game -menu after initially copying them to C:\Users\<your WIN user>\AppData\Roaming\Dune - Spice Wars\.

The difference is - now that folder isn't used anymore at all, it's not even created.

Not sure if this helps but the problem i have been running into is that the game is not creating the "Dune - Spice Wars" in the C:\Users\<your WIN user>\AppData\Roaming\Dune - Spice Wars\.

If i want to launch my saves I have to manually create the "Dune - Spice Wars/save" folder and paste my save files from "%LocalAppData%\Packages\FuncomOsloAS.DuneSpiceWars_pkaskhy6cdq4g\SystemAppData\xgs\<some very long id-folder>"

I haven't seen anyone mention say that the "Dune - Spice Wars" keeps disappearing when i close and relaunch the game, hope this helps.

i tryed all the solutions and they dont work.. i mannualy created the "Dune - Spice Wars" folder but every time i relaunch the game it desappear.

Hey! I'm having the same problem with my game saves. I have the files but they doesn't appear in the loading game page inside the game. I tried what they suggested here but it not works. Is there an update or something that I can download to fix this? I'm playing in PC using Xbox Game Pass.

All my saves from today have disappeared.
It looks like old save games from cloud have overwritten them.
Why is there no check if the file is newer?

This has happened to me several times now as well, on the Game Pass version with the Ix expansion installed. I can see my save files in the AppData folder but I can't seem to change them. Is the cloud save overwriting every time? Is there a way to disable the cloud sync? Very sad to have lost hours and hours of playtime :(
